Professional Supervision

“It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that you cannot sincerely try to help another without helping yourself.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

If you are passionate about making a difference and improving the lives of the people that you work with, but can feel frustrated by bureaucracy and traditional service approaches, you will experience a good fit with the supervision available through Lightly.

What to expect from supervision

Supervision is an opportunity to develop your practice and grow professionally.  It is a space for support, reflection, challenge and growth.

You can expect a conversational and integrative approach to supervision that is individually tailored to meet your needs.

Early sessions involve the negotiation of a supervision contract where we reach a shared understanding about your hopes for supervision, how you want to approach the development of an agenda for each session, the frequency of sessions that works best for you, and how any dual relationships or conflicts of interest that may arise throughout the supervisory relationship will be responded to.

  • "Through supervision with Cassie my connection to the social work profession is strengthened. I always come away from our time together feeling re-energised and that I have shared in a rich learning space. My approach to supervision can be somewhat ‘scattered’, however Cassie has a beautiful way of taking this all in and explaining things very succinctly. Supervision with Cassie provides a safe space to reflect, to explore aspects of my life and work that impact on my practice, and to explore alternative ways of working. Cassie does this while still providing appropriate challenges and curious questions that have helped me to grow as a social worker."

    Dayna – Social Worker

  • "Cassie’s thoughtful guidance in supervision allows me to reflect on my practice, critique workplace incidents and appreciate the positive work that I am undertaking. Cassie willingly undertakes research and provides follow up information. Her knowledge and experience was invaluable when supervising my first social work student. At times, when I have become disillusioned with organisational structures Cassie has encouraged me to become involved in activities outside of work to assist with my aspiration to bring about societal change. Since acting on this I feel more contented as a social worker and better understand that change takes time."

    Helen – Social Worker

  • "Cassie is a very present and flexible supervisor who has experience in working with complex cases. Cassie has provided me with a number of practical reflection tools and resources which I continue to make use of outside of our sessions. Cassie is accommodating to my individual needs in terms of the structure of our supervision sessions and is skilled in asking questions which promote reflection and challenge me to consider different approaches to practice. Supervision has allowed me to feel more grounded in my practice as Cassie assisted me to connect back to social work theories and my practice framework."

    Stacey – Family Support

  • "Cassie structured supervision so it was relaxed and supportive while still providing direction that allowed me to progress my career in a way that was important to me. Supervision with Cassie enabled me to perform tasks in my role with clarity and concentrate on the parts of the role that I enjoyed the most. Cassie listened and stayed connected throughout supervision and gave me a sense that nothing was impossible, no matter how difficult a task was.”
